Send Video

The easiest, quickest, and most economical way to get significant information about your basic throwing mechanics is to send us a videotape. We will review it and return to you a video analysis with frame-by-frame commentary. $125 fee. Instructions for taping are described below.

CAMERAS - We use SVHS format. You may send us regular standard VHS.

CAMERA SETTINGS - Most all recent cameras have a high shutter speed button. Shoot at a minimum 1/1000 of a second or faster if you can. That will freeze movement with clarity. The faster the speed the more light you will need. However this should not be a problem in day light hours. Your camera may also have a "sports" program if it does not allow you to set the shutter speed manually. Do not use auto focus! There will be too much depth and lateral movement across and the lens. Use the manual focus feature. Zoom in tighter than you plan to frame the image, focus and them zoom back out to the framing you will use. Everything should be in focus.

TAPE - There is little difference in the quality of most retail tapes. Remember you will only be shooting less than 15 min. Don't waste money on postage due to heavy excess tape footage. We do not return tapes. We file your tape for six months for future reference.

SHOOTING - USE A TRIPOD! It is almost impossible to obtain a good image capable of freeze framing from a hand held camera. When ever possible never shoot with the sun in front of you. Keep the sun to your back or either side. Just as in all photography the image that you are shooting will be dark with the background very bright.

You only need to tape about 4 throws from each angle and pitching position - wind up, stretch and pick off. A total of 48 pitches. So as not to excessively move the camera set the camera at 45 degrees, shoot 4 throws from wind up, 4 from the stretch and 4 pick off move to first base. Move the camera and repeat the sequence from 90, 180 & 270.

Composition

  • SHOOT THE PICTURE FROM THESE ANGLES ( right hand and left hand pitcher pictured below)
  • IF YOU ARE SHOOTING A LEFT HAND PITCHER REVERSE THE ANGLES. START THE 45 ANGLE FROM 1ST BASE SIDE AND MOVE TO YOUR RIGHT. YOU WILL END UP WITH YOUR BACK TO 3RD BASE AT THE 270 ANGLE.
  • GET AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN TO FRAME THE PICTURE SO THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAN (MOVE) THE CAMERA. THE PITCHER SHOULD MOVE FROM ONE SIDE OF THE VIEW FINDER TO THE OTHER WITH THE TOP OF THE HIS HEAD AT THE TOP OP THE VIEW FINDER
  • REMEMBER TO SHOOT WIND UP, STRETCH, AND PICK OFF MOVE FROM ALL ANGLES
